GUANGZHOU, July 20 (Xinhua) -- Typhoon Wipha, the sixth typhoon of the year, made landfall near Jiangmen City in south China's Guangdong Province around 5:50 p.m. on Sunday, according to the Guangdong provincial meteorological observatory.

At landfall, the maximum wind speed near its center reached 33 meters per second. Wipha is expected to move west-southwestward at a speed of 20 to 25 km per hour.
